How To Create A Crackle Finish

We created a crackle finish sample in our shop with Sherwin Williams products.  Take a look!

Staining Alder Cabinets

We have been creating custom colors for our clients for over three decades! We use Daly's products for all of our wood staining, and in this case, we combined it with Pratt & Lambert glaze to obtain the detailing you see in the photo.

Our customer gave us the sample piece in the top right-hand corner of the photo for us to match. Then, we were brought a complete set of raw, alder kitchen cabinets to stain. Here are the steps we took to get the look:

1. Distress wood
2. Benite
3. Stain with Daly's wood stain
4. 1 coat of AC sealer conversion varnish
5. Glaze with Pratt & Lambert
6. 1 coat of AC sealer conversion varnish
7. 2 coats of Krystal conversion varnish

What do you think? Can you tell the difference between the sample and our match?

Lead Testing

Today we tested a 100-year-old home in Seattle for lead.  This customer was referred by Daly's Paint, and after we wash the home, we'll strip the paint completely off.  The home has cedar siding which becomes soft when wet, so it requires a more delicate wash as compared to other homes.  The customer chose Daly's C2 colors for this home:

C2 "Wall Street" body color
C2 "Noodle" trim

Furniture Refinishing

Today at the shop we're sanding patio furniture we picked up from a customer's home. Sanding is the second step in our refinishing process. The first, as seen in the photo above, was pressure washing each piece of furniture to ensure that they are completely clean before sanding.

After sanding, our shop crew will start the staining process with Daly's deck stain. We are using deck stain because it is very durable and best suited for outdoor furniture. More info on Daly's deckstain here.

House washing | Concrete washing @ Seley Services

It's spring time and the sun is starting to shine, which  means it's time to get your home ready for summer!  Seley Services can wash your home and all exterior surfaces - maintaining your paint finishes and adding some major curb appeal!  Add an upgrade with concrete washing.

Descriptions of all washing services below.

HOUSE WASHING

Pressure washing removes dirt, mold, insects and other debris from the exterior of a home or structure.

Cleaning your home annually (we recommend at least once per year) will not only keep the surface itself in tact, but will ensure that you get the highest quality and longest life out of your paint and stain while keeping your property looking pristine.

CONCRETE WASHING

Pressure washing is a great way to clean the grunge and grime from concrete driveways, pathways and patios. By using a pressure washer properly, we can eliminate ugly oil stains and the danger that someone will slip on slick dirt.

CONCRETE SEALING

Concrete sealant is a product that is placed on top of concrete that has already been poured and dried, creating a permanent seal that is designed to keep rain, water and other substances from penetrating and damaging the concrete.

Sealing concrete helps to make the poured concrete last much longer, preventing water from getting into cracks and pores to cause erosion. Having water in the concrete can also lead to cracking when temperatures fall and the water freezes, making concrete sealant essential in areas that experience severe low temperatures during the winter.

Accent Walls: Just One Can Go A Long Way!

If you're looking to change the color or style in your home but aren't sure where to start, you might be surprised at how much just one accent wall can add!  Here, we added one accent wall to an all-white painted condo in downtown Bellevue.  Daly's C2 "Saddle" added warmth and color to the living room - updating the entire look of the condo.

Finishing Steel At Seley Services

Seley Services is working on painting and staining a guest house/home office in Bellevue that incorporates many different surface types:  wood, stone and steel.  Below are pictures of a steel fixture that we stained with a galvanized steel finish at our shop.  This was a three step process:
1.) Clean and etch the steel surface
2.) Apply special bonding primer
3.) Apply two coats of metal enamel from Benjamin Moore

Today In The Seley Services Shop

Cabinet & Lamp Refinishing

Today in the Seley shop, we are refinishing a customer's handmade mahogany cabinets and lamps.  These pieces of furniture were made by a family member approximately 45 years ago, and are majorly in need of a facelift.

To update them, we'll first remove the hardware, then strip the existing finish.  We'll then sand and prep the pieces, followed by three coats of conversion varnish.  Conversion varnish is very durable and won't yellow over time.  It's a clear finish that will maintain and enhance the natural mahogany color.

What's Happening In The Seley Shop Today...

Kitchen Cabinets

Our first project is staining cabinets for a kitchen remodel.  These parts have been sanded, benited, and are now being stained with a Daly's wood stain custom created by Mark Seley.

Alder Trim
Our second shop project today is for a garage remodel.  These alder planks are being sanded, benited and stained with a custom color from Daly's created by Mark Seley.  This job will be done in two days for the customer off-site so the customer can install finished wood to their garage.
